Hello, I'm Joana
I care for women and babies with one simple belief: the body speaks, and our job is to learn to listen.

Treating the symptom is not enough
Throughout my work as a physiotherapist, I have seen that the same complaint can have very different origins. Leaking urine, painful sex or a baby who struggles to latch rarely come down to a single part of the body.
That is why I went on to study osteopathy and acupuncture: to see each woman as a whole and look, in every case, for the root of what is happening. That is where the name A Raiz da Cura, "the root of healing", comes from.
"We can only heal when we listen to what the body is telling us."
I work alongside gynaecologists, obstetricians, midwives, paediatricians and GPs. The therapies I offer complement medical care and never replace it.
Background and credentials

Three commitments
Time
Unhurried visits, so I can hear your whole story before any hands-on work.
Consent
I explain every technique before using it. You can say no, or stop, at any moment.
Autonomy
The aim is for you to leave every session understanding your body better and knowing how to care for it.
Teaching and building bridges
Alongside her clinical work, Joana teaches workshops, gives talks, trains other therapists and collaborates with professionals in Portugal and abroad. She is organising the Art of Birth Workshop Europe 2027.
The first step is a conversation
Send a WhatsApp message saying what you are looking for, and Joana will get back to you to book a visit in Guimarães.
Joana usually replies within 24 working hours. Please do not send clinical details via WhatsApp: we will talk about them in person.
